Credit questions

How do I choose a credit consultant in Los Angeles?

Choose a company that explains its process and fees in writing before you pay, and that makes no promises to remove accurate information. Avoid anyone who asks for advance fees, pressures you to sign right away or guarantees a specific score. You should receive a written contract and keep the right to cancel within three business days. Compare several local options, including firms in the San Fernando Valley, and ask every question before you commit.

What red flags does the FTC warn about?

The Federal Trade Commission warns consumers about companies that promise to remove accurate negative items, ask for payment before doing any work or tell you to dispute everything. Walk away from anyone who suggests creating a new credit identity, such as using a different Social Security number or an employer identification number, because that is illegal.

What should a credit repair contract include?

Under the Credit Repair Organizations Act, a credit repair contract must be in writing. It should describe the services, the total cost and payment terms, and the estimated date the services will be completed, and it must include a statement of your right to cancel within three business days. Read the whole contract and keep a signed copy.

Does it matter if the consultant is in Los Angeles?

Location matters less than the terms you agree to. Fix Your Credit Consulting has its main office in Studio City and a Valley Village address in the San Fernando Valley, and it serves clients nationwide. Whichever company you choose, ask where its office is, who will work on your file and how it protects your personal information.

What should I ask before I sign?

Ask how fees are set and when they are charged, what specific steps will be taken on your report, whether you can see sample letters, and what you can do yourself for free. A reputable company will answer these questions in writing and without pressure. You can also review our how it works page before you call.
